After detailed instructions and a few practice injections, the nurse hands our transgender son his first dose of testosterone and tells him he’s ready to go!
He’s hesitant to self-inject, but with the kind assurance from the nurse, he’s able to complete the task.
Next, he covers the injection site with a band-aid, while the sweet nurse praises his accomplishment with a cute little hand clap.
The nurse then exits the room, leaving the three of us alone.
Our son immediately starts crying which makes my husband and I leap from our seats to embrace him.
“I’m just so happy,” he whispers to us in our group hug.
Now, all three of us are crying happy tears as we hold each other in this magnificent moment.
Our transgender teen insisted that he wanted ZERO celebration for this significant milestone in his journey and for once I’m glad I didn’t listen.
Instead, I rented out a lane at the local bowling alley and invited five of his closest friends who were in-the-know and happy to celebrate T-Day with our son.

I can honestly say that as a TransMama, this ended up being one of the happiest days in our son’s early quest on becoming the man God intended him on being.

If you’re unfamiliar with gender-affirming hormone therapy (GHT), T refers to testosterone.
T-Day is what we refer to as our kid’s first day of receiving a dose of GHT.
